Today, I had another Hoary Redpoll visit my feeders. It seemed promising that it would stick around - that is - until this Sharp-shinned Hawk showed up and chased what looked like the Redpoll, almost grabbing it!! That would have been a shame since Hoary Redpolls are rare in my area. The feeders have been fairly quiet for the rest of the day...

This Hawk, unlike other accipiter species who I get, did not fly away quickly. In fact, it stood in place even as I went out on my deck to take this photo.

Read my blog post about this: A Hoary Redpoll and the Sharpie Who Almost Ate It

Really good photo! Last winter my feeder also had been visited by the copule of Hawks, but this year I haven't seen them so far :(

Thank you! It is nice to get the Hawks, but not nice when they scare away and try to eat a rare bird :D
