This Loon was holding fort in the middle of the beach. I'm hoping that it was not injured in any way because it would did not seem to want to move. I did not want to distress it, so I quickly snapped a few photos and left it alone shortly after.
The ruffled feathers are from the wind blowing in from behind

And I do not think a healthy loon could be as far from the water because they are very adapted to dive and the life on the water. Their feet are so far at the back of their body that normaly, loons cannot handle more than a few steps walking out of the water.
I wish I could go more often! But now that it's getting warmer, I need to find time during the week. Otherwise the crowds will chase away the wildlife.
