Having bird feeders around means you have to be prepared to feed the larger birds too. This Cooper's Hawk was making attempts all day - especially since a very large flock of Starlings kept swarming me. He finally captured one and that also made the Starlings leave for good.
This was shot through my sliding glass doors at a pretty good distance from my house to the edge of the woods.

how lovely! I've never been able to get a good look at our local hawk, even when it was hungrily eyeing my neighbor's (22 year old) cats through her window, but my boyfriend suspects that it could be a Cooper's hawk after having to catch one at work (he's a chef, but the restaurant has glass exterior walls, and the poor bird flew straight into the glass and was totally disoriented. he and his boss caught it and then his boss brought it to The Raptor Trust [link] so it wouldn't be hit by a car or drown)
Nice shot! This evil red eye is cool. A few days ago I had one in my garden to, but he flew away just when I returned with my camera. Apropos camera: I just realized that you've got the one for which I saved my whole money for more than a year. Then I realized that I'd never be able to by this beauty and invested in pencils xD
Neat shot Melissa! Yeah I have these watching my feeders also. when the birds fly off.. I just have to look into the big trees at the stone wall and yup there it is.
