Do you think you could spot this bird if you didn't know he was there?? The Common Potoo is a tough bird to spot. It looks like a branch with a beak and eyes... when predators come near, it holds steady, closes its eyes and can easily fool any predator. If you look closely at his eye, you can see vertical slits that he can see out of (so that he is not completely blind while danger is near). Our guides knew that he likes to hang out in this area - this is the only way we knew where he was. Even while our boat was right next to him, he was tough to spot unless you knew exactly what to look for.
