On the Trail by mydigitalmind On the Trail by mydigitalmind
I heard there were foxes in the neighborhood, so I knew to look out for them - little did I know that the one of the dens was in the nature trail that begins at my backyard - not too far in. I first saw two of them (the photos are not that sharp), then when I went back into the woods, this one was hanging around.

There are already blinds set up near the hole, so I plan to do some camping out next time.

A very nice wild Grey Fox shot.

The subject is nicely in focus and the background is blurred nicely. There are no distracting elements in the background. The focus in the foreground is okay but there is some distraction in the left hand cornter by the fox's tail. The path draws the viewers eye right to the subject. There are no issues with lighting in any part of the photo.

The only real improvement that I would suggest is to have a tighter crop above the fox and a wider crop on the right side so that the fox's head is less centered in the frame.

Overall, very nice capture.

Love the colors in this! The quality seems a little low, is it a large crop? But this is a beautiful composition!

Thank you!

It is cropped quite a bit and lighting was very low. Even at 1600 ISO, the shutter speed was slow for being hand-held (didn't help that I was shaking from excitement!)

nice pic, pretty animal. i was thinking how feline this fox looks, and then i remembered that the Grey Fox has those special cat-like ankles for climbing trees...

I really hope to see them in a tree one day. I read that they climb. So far, I only have all ground shots.

Thanks for the comment!

Thank you! I'm wondering if you're seeing a cached version. I brightened it less than 24 hour before you replied. Perhaps it needs some more?

Thanks - I think I just need to learn more about them. I spotted one again today from even closer, but didn't get my camera up in time. I guess I have plenty of time to try though :)
