Red squirrels are much smaller then your normal gray squirrel, but still larger than a chipmunk - and from my experience, much quicker. This little one was hoping around the day before - too quick to allow me to get a shot of him. The next day was rainy, so perhaps it calmed him down a bit.
Shot through my sliding glass doors.
American Red Squirrel (aka Pine Squirrel) Vestal, New York EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS USM
The first thing that came to mind when I saw this was the clarity and detail this photo has. You can clearly see every little whisker and hair. I really like the plain green background, it makes the squirrel's color stand out when normally a squirrel blends in with trees and bark you can truly see the beauty in this small creature. The dark black eye is a focal point in the photo and I really like that. The only thing in this shot that got me off was that crack in the wood. It distracts the eye away from the main subject. Overall, great shot!
