Sandstorm by mydigitalmind Sandstorm by mydigitalmind
This Oystercatcher and its mate were very cooperative. It was very windy and the sand was blowing around, especially close to the ground. I did not notice that I captured it until I reviewed this photo on my laptop.

The blowing sand does detract a little, but overall it's a very sharp image with a nice background!

Oohh.. so you think it would be better without the sand? I do have a few shots without it too. :)

I'm not 100% sure. The sand immediately drew my eye, which I think is a bad thing, but an argument could be made that it also adds a non-typical element to the setting that might make the image more distinctive. You could try softening it a little and see how that works.

It's always nice to find cool things during processing which you didn't notice from the viewfinder.  The fact that the background is dark enough to show the sand particles is also a nice touch.

It's nice finding these little surprises. I knew I'd like these photos, but this just added to them!!!
