The birds were filling the feeders before and after Hurricane Sandy hit. This Blue Jay was not done filling his crop just yet. He went back for more before flying off. This was shot through my sliding glass door.

Hello, I am very inspired by this photo! My name is Brooke and I would love the honor of drawing this with graphite, possibly some color? I have a good friend who's baby son will be having heart surgery and she will be holding a benefit for the little guy Feb 23. She asked me to draw her something, anything I want, to be sold for extra money that will all go towards his expenses. If you allow me to draw this I will list your name as the photographer who took the reference photo somewhere on the actual drawing. Also will post it on here so you can see it finished and will mention you here too. There will only be the original and once it's sold, no prints or anything else. All proceeds will go to him. Thanks so much whatever you decide, please let me know. :)

I Can't look at one of these without thinking about Mordecai from Regular Show. Still a good photo though.

I did not know they could stuff their crops like chipmunks stuff their cheeks.
I guess that explains why I saw one appear to regurgitate a berry and then eat it again.

Yeah, they are one of the birds that have this unique type of crop so that they can grab a lot of food to store it somewhere. Pretty much like a chipmunk!

this is very beautiful. I really love blue jays.
I hear they are very mean birds when it comes to sparrow nesting. I am unsure if that is quite true or not but blue jays are quite lovely. I really adore this picture :la: I just thought I would say. I always make sure that we having humming bird feeders and bird food for the birds around here, cause these days it hard for the birds to find anything to eat. :) but anyways I really love this picture it very gorgeous.

Thank you so much! They are bullies at the feeders - usually I could have feeders full of small birds who fly off when a Jay lands. And they eat a lot, but I still love them!
